The Soph's with some help, take care of the Bruins in Bridgeport

March 25, 2017 - Bridgeport: The record streak was at 109 games heading into a Saturday afternoon Sweet 16 matchup with an improving UCLA team at Webster Bank Arena. The Pac 12 power featured point guard Jordin Canada and forward Monique Billings that was going to pose a challenge to the Huskies.

And they started fast, the Bruins that is. 9-2 where four of the five starters scored for the Bruins before UConn got it's sea legs. To the tune of a 17-2 run that was started and finished by a pair of Kia Nurse three pointers with everyone else contributing to the cause.

And they weren't done yet, as in the second quarter it was an 18-5 spurt that extended the Huskies lead to 42-22 with 1:45 left in the half. The lead was 17 at the break as Naphessa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson led the way with 14 points apiece. Phee added 9 boards in the opening 20 minutes as the Bruins had no answers.

The second half saw more Collier (27p 14r on 10/16 FG- 5a and 3 blocks) along with the contributions of Gabby Williams (17p. 9r, and 6 assists) and Soniya Chong's 16 keyed the 86-71 win over UCLA to get to 35-0 on the season. The Huskies, with the help of an 11 of 15 second quarter, shot an impressive 56% on the day as Katie Lou Samuelson added 15 in the win. Consecutive win #110...and awaiting them on Monday Night ? A "quack attack" from the great northwest and a freshman duo that dominated the game this season
